Getting Started Guide
This is a step-by-step guide to setting up Homeboy for Windows Media Center. This guide will walk you through installing Homeboy and setting up an Insteon appliance or light. For any other information or troubleshooting, make a comment or send us an email. We are happy to help.
1. Install Hardware
Before doing anything else, you'll want to install all of your Insteon devices into your home. This either means plugging-in or wiring-in the Insteon products that you have purchased or already own. Take a look at the recommended Insteon devices that will work well with Homeboy.
2. Connect Equipment
- Connecting your TV to your PC.
- Connecting your Insteon Modem to your PC.
3. Setup Homeboy
- Install and Run Homeboy
- Download Homeboy for WMC for free.
- Run the installer package.
- When the install is complete, start Windows Media Center.
- Homeboy is available from the WMC Start Menu.
- Edit Modem Settings
- From the Devices home screen, click on the Modem button under the actions menu. This will take you to the Edit Modem screen where you can configure your modem settings.
- Enter the address of your Insteon modem.
- Enter the COM port that your USB/Serial Insteon modem is connected to. You can find this information in the computer's Device Manager utility.
- Enter the Baud Rate of your Insteon modem. If you are using the 2413S or 2413U PowerLinc Modem (which you should be) then the baud rate is '19200'.
- Click Save.
- Add Devices
- From the Devices home screen, click on Add Device.
- Enter a name for your device. An example of a good name to use might be Living Room Light or Bedroom Fan.
- Enter the address of your Insteon device.
- Select "Light" or "Dimmable Light" as the device type. Some lights are not dimmable such as flourescent lights. Make sure that you read the details and warnings for your Insteon device from the manufacturer before installing.
- Click Next.
- Repeat Step 3 until all your Insteon devices have been added.
- Control Devices
- From the Devices home screen, you'll see a list of all of your devices. Simply clikc on the device that you would like to control.
